CHAPTER 41
NARRATOR
“My Lord, I am
Lawyer John Samed for the accused” John announced proudly as he winked at Rosa
who sat beside him in the court.
“I am Lawyer
Charles for the plaintiff” The other Lawyer stated as he stood up ad sat
“Can the accused
come out?” The judge asked and Rosa stood up , now in a different cloth that
Angela had brought for her.
She went to
where she was supposed to sit for questioning. She glanced around as she saw
Angela, Francis and Romeo beside Luke. Luke! He smiled as their eyes met and
then he signaled to her to relax. Peri and Ella were beside Debby who was
wearing black..Frank had died the previous night as Francis had told her that
morning. She could also see some other people from the mansion who had come to
support her.
Debby had just
finished her own questionings out of which she had lied about not calling her
or sacking her.
“Can you tell
the court how it all happened Miss Rosa?” John asked as Rosa narrated how she was called that night by
Debby and how it had happened.
“Were you and
Miss Debby on good terms before then ?”
“No”
“So how was it possible
that she called you when you were not on good terms?”
Rosa shrugged. “I
was surprised”
“How close were
you two before?”
“very close. like
sisters”
“What caused the little rift between you two?”
“I was given
the award she so much wanted and I also got the man she abandoned some times
back”
There was noise
from the court as the Judge shouted’ Order! And it was silence again.
“My Lord..” continued John, “I don’t want to keep
wasting our time because a dear friend and a boss just died and I still need to
mourn. We heard all that happened from both sides, we don’t need to dig into
their past or waste further time so let me just bring in my testifiers. We are
dealing with murder here and we need to go straight to the point. Through the
testifies, we would know who is lying and we would see thr truth”
“Bring your first testifier, the accused can go back to
her seat” The Judge ordered.
Rosa went back
to her seat while John signaled to Francis who was now close to the entrance.
As Debby
sighted the man that came in with
Francis, she gasped.
After the man
had taken the oath, he sat for questioning.
“Please tell
the court your name and how you are related to this” John asked.
“I am Honorable
Miller and I was in a relationship with the deceased.”
“So, can you
tell us where you were on the day and in the night of the murder?”
“Earlier that
day, I was at Jessica’s place. We were eating when she said someone was in the
living room. She left her food and didn’t come back for a while and as I went
to see what was happening, I began to hear strange noises as if in a quarrel”
“Can you please
tell the court some things you heard?”
“Yes, I heard
Jessy saying she disowned her daughter some times ago and they were exchanging
words”
“But you heard
the word ‘daughter’ meaning, she was addressing a daughter she had disowned?”
“Yes” replied
Miller.
“Thank you , go
ahead”
“I was hurt cos
she didn’t tell me she had a daughter and I had craved for family since I lost
mine. So I left angrily and said it was over”
“Okay but will
you recognize the daughter if you see her?”
“Yes she is
sitting there” Said Miller and pointed to Debby.
“please continue”
“So later, I went
to somewhere to cool my head because I really loved Jessy and I knew she must
have a reason for not telling me so as I was contemplating on going back that
night..I got a video message from her. You see we usually video chat a lot..”He
sounded a little embarrassed.
“Wha t was in
the content please”
“She ..urm…she
was taking her bath and she was recording it live..”
Another noise
started and the “order!” from the Judge silenced everything.
Luke and
Francis came out with a transparent bag containing a phone which was handed to John . They plugged the speaker to the flat screen in the court room where
everyone could see .
“My Lord, this
is Honorable Miller’s phone” John announced as he brought out the phone and
Luke gave him a cord which he attached to the phone.
Francis put on
the screen and John scrolled on the phone making the thing s in the phone
appear on the TV screen.
Jessy was taking her bath, they could see foam
all over her body , it was obvious she was naked and some people in the court
had to cover their eyes
“baby I love you, please don’t leave me. Come back
to me,,just then something shattered on the floor..which got her distracted,
she had probably thought she had paused the video, she wrapped a towel and
stepped out of the bath. The view rotated to the left with the way she handled
the phone and then they could see the beautiful chandelier .
“Debby..what are you doing? Why did you come
back?”
“I want that phone mother”
“You cannot have it!”
“Mother give me that phone!”
“Leave me alone and get out you bastard”
There was a little struggle..”you are going to
kill me you this child..stop it..stop it..” and then they heard what seemed
like s push and the older woman screamed and there was a thud! And then silence.
“Oh my God..oh my God,,what did I do’’’
The scene came
to end as everyone gasped .
“So what did
you do next Honorable?”
“ I ended the
chat immediately. I was already far from her house and it was raining and there
was traffic. By the time I got back to her house, I saw policemen swarming out
of the house, holding a lady”
“Thank You Honorable,
you can please go back to your seat”
John faced the
Judge.”My Lord, this was because of a phone which we tried to look for. I guess
Miss Debby had taken it with her. But aren’t you a little bit curious as to what
could be so important in the video? Let me call my second testifier”
Someone stood
up from the far end corner of the court
room. White hat, big glasses, all white jumpsuit and a stiletto shoe. As she
walked to the front and got to where Debby sat, she turned and removed her
sunshade.
“You missed me?
Bitch!”
Rosa wondered
who it was until she sat down at the front and removed her sunshade while
taking the oath.
“ I Vera Smith,
promised to say nothing but the truth…”
“Can you tell
us who you are ?” John asked.
“I am Vera
smith. I used to be Debby’s bestfriend she stole my man”
“Okay thank you
Miss Vera. Please, how are you related to all this murder scene”
“First, your
honor, Debby is a big son of a bitch who would do anything to get what she
wants. Hell, she killed her own mother! All because of her stupid ambition! You
see, when she stole my man, well, a man that wasn’t really mine to begin
with..thank God she did though. I would make a terrible widow! I told her moth
So her mama
gave me a call after so many months, and told me everything that has happened
and how she disowned her and all. Later she gave me a call few days back and
sent a recorded video to me. She said Debby had come that day and she was
afraid she may come and od something stupid so she sent it to me incase
anything happens to that phone”
“May I have the
phone?”
“Sure> There
is nothing I would love more” replied Vera as she handed him her phone and he
did same thing he had done earlier. Just that this time, they could only see
the mirror, where the phone was facing when it had dropped.
“Sorry, Madam, pardon me as I didn’t know you
were in something extremely important.”
“By the way, what did you do to Vera?”
“It really pained her, I thought she would be
proud of me. What did she tell you mother?”
“I remember just two words; backstabbing bitch
and a whore”
Debby laughed. “She must have left ‘brilliant and
ready to learn out’”
“Would you just tell me what you did and quit
wasting my time?”
“Mother, I did nothing that was bad, I actually
took to her advice. She told me the season is for the taking. We take what we want,
no matter what it cost us?”
“What does
that even mean?”
“Mother, she had a plan to sleep with
Frannicky…..it was a one time opportunity mother, I just had my own plans and I
won”
“You won what exactly? A lotto”
“No, I met Frannicky, I got to him before she
could..let’s just say I made sure he remembers me once he settles down.
“If I’m not stupid, you said you backstabbed your
friend and stole a man from her right..”:
“Mum, he isn’t just a man, this is Frannicky and
do you even know what he worth?”
“You, betrayed your only friend because of your
own selfish interest, Debby?”
“She would have done the same thing.
“Was it just a fling?”
“No Mother. I cannot use my future to have a
fling. I am going to have that man for sure.”
”Frannicky, that old man that everyone is talking
about?”
“He is not as old as that Mother. No one has
really seen his pictures.”
“SO, what will happen to Frank?”
“Frank can be let off the hook Mother.”
“Are we doing this again?”
“Ma, the mistake you made me do was going through
that stupid plan with you. Let him go! I don’t want him, right now; all I want
is Frannicky to have my attention”
“Why do you keep doing this?”
“Mother. I am not here to ask for your support or
your advice. You called me here so please, skip all what you are about to start
because, you made me waste my time with Frank all this while and I’m not
willing to do this again.”
“So you want to marry an old man now, who is old
enough to be your father.
“Yes Mother! Now that you even made me realize, I
really need that man since my mother never gave me a fatherly care!”
“Well, since you are desperate for a fatherly
care, I hope he doesn’t die on the night of your wedding”
“No mother, he won’t die until he has made me his
wife and when he dies, I will have everything.” “You are really that stupid
hun?”
“I know you meant clever mother.”
“No daughter, if you are clever with a good
brain, you won’t be talking like a desperate gold digging whore!”
“Mother,
all I can see right now is jealousy. If you were a good mother, you would be
happy for me and you would support me. How dare you call me a whore. Did you
see what you were doing before I came home? Selling yourself cheaply all in the
name of having a man. Do you see I’m the true daughter of my mother?”
“I am only protecting you so that you wouldn’t
make the same mistake I made. Please, stay with the man that loves you so you
won’t end up like me, lonely and miserable.” Her mother pleaded.
“I do not need your protection mother. Besides,
the only difference between us is , I am clever enough to use what I have to
get what I want and I don’t mind stepping over anybody..even my own mother!”
“What are
you saying?”
“I am saying goodbye to you mother and you can
give yourself those cheap pieces of advice. I wonder why those advises never
worked for you . I won’t come here again mother and I promise you, the next
time you will hear of me, I would have become the “First lady of Frank
Nicholas”
“Then go and never come back. By the way, I will
be waiting for you one day when your tail will be hanging in between your legs”
“Keep dreaming Mother. Don’t bother to wait
because this is the last time you will be seeing me here”
There was
another noise in the court.
“Thank you Vera,
you can go”
“Oh! It was a
pleasure”
Vera stood up,
collected her phone and walked back to where Debby sat cowering and crying.
“I told you
bitch! You thought I was gone forever? I am glad to be the one that drove the
last nail to your coffin. Rot in hell.”
“My Lord, that
is all I have to say” Said John who walked back to his seat only for Rosa to
throw herself at him and hugged him.
“So with these
new evidences, this is my judgment. Debby you are guilty of murder and I am
sentencing you to life imprisonment. Peri and Ella, 6 months imprisonment each
for bearing false witnesses. Rosa, you are free to go. I rise.”
Hmmmmmmmmmm! Finally.....only one chapter remaining..thank God..I hope we love how it ends..
